چکیده

In a multi-rate environment fairness is not guaranteed, there is a tradeoff between fairness and throughput in such WLANs. To reduce the tradeoff problem we construct a novel intuitive simplified mathematical model called simplified coefficient of variation (SCV) model, we use SCV model to solve the optimization tradeoff problem through power control of APs, to improve balance between proportional fairness among users and throughput of network in Multi-rate 802.11 WLANs. SCV model opens the door for all of intelligent algorithms in AI. Since the problem is NP-hard, we naturally think of Travelling Salesman Problem and one of its solution-Simulated Annealing Algorithm, therefore we use Simulated Annealing Algorithm for simulation in Matlab based on our SCV model, both Matlab and SAS optimal result and analysis show the effectiveness of SCV model and convenience to implement in engineering.

Throughput Measurement-Based Access Point Selection for Multi-rate Wireless LANs

In this paper, we propose a novel access point (AP) selection algorithm to maximize the system throughput while considering user fairness. The main idea is that when a new-coming user enters an overlapping area of a wireless local area network (WLAN), it first estimates the system throughput as if it were associated with each of the APs involved. Then it chooses the AP that can achieve the high...

Maximization of System Throughput Subject to Access Time Fairness Constraints in Multi-Rate 802.11 WLANs

In the field of wireless communications, it is difficult to achieve good performance and fairness simultaneously, especially in advanced wireless local area networks (LANs), such as 802.11a/b/g, with multi-rate modulation. Although the long-term equal access probability results in throughput fairness, there is considerable performance degradation and unfair channel access time. We address the p...

A Two-Tiered Time and Throughput Fair Scheduler for Multi-Rate WLANs

Low throughput due to unfairness is a key problem in multi-rate wireless local area networks. To promote fairness and hence throughput, T -Fair groups flows according to their average data rate, provides each group fair time allocations and ensures throughput fairness for flows in each group. Since each group is allocated transmission times fairly, T -Fair isolates high and low rate groups and ...

Maximizing Utility via Random Access Without Message Passing

It has been an intensively sought-after goal to achieve high throughput and fairness in wireless scheduling through simple and distributed algorithms. Many recent papers on the topic have relied on various types of message passing among the nodes. The following question remains open: can scheduling without any message passing guarantee throughput-optimality and fairness? Over the last year, it ...
